Description
How does Primo HG work to regulate growth?
Primo HG (Home Garden) works by blocking the production of gibberellic acid within the plant leaf, effectively limiting cell elongation and curbing vertical growth. By shortening the distance between the shoot nodes, treated areas will see shorter, more upright turf growth, which consequently allows for better use of the plant’s energy.
When Primo HG is first applied, it is rapidly absorbed into the plant via its leaves. It quickly moves through the plant and begins to suppress growth, an effect that can last for up to 6weeks.
Using a growth regulator not only reduces vertical growth, but it also supplements lateral growth and better root development, which leads to a fuller, denser lawn that looks lush rather than overgrown. This is integral for plant health and root zone stability.
Why use Primo HG Turf Growth Regulator?
Many people choose to use Primo HG to promote greener, denser, more resilient turf with less growth, fewer clippings and, therefore, less expensive maintenance. Primo HG is the only turf growth regulator registered for home use in Australia.
Using Primo HG to regulate growth also has an array of flow-on benefits to the turfgrass, improving its water usage, colour, phytochemical efficiency, rooting, and ability to maintain quality under stressful conditions like drought, heat, and shade.
It’s particularly useful when treating lawns ahead of hot summers that can be stressful for the turf. When Primo HG is applied, the treated turf will form a deeper and more robust root system, which leads to better tolerance to heat, less wear and tear, and increased tolerance to pests and diseases.
Which turf species can Primo HG be used on?
It can be used on several different species of turf commonly found and used in Australia, including:
Warm-season grasses
- Bahia grass
- Buffalo grass
- Carpet grass
- Common couch (green)
- Couch hybrids and varieties (eg Greenlees Park, Santa Ann & Wintergreen)
- Kikuyu
Cool-season grasses
- Bent grass (Agrostis Capillaris)
- Fescue
- Perennial ryegrass
